Triumph TransAmeriCan Charity Drive
Posted 07/27/2009

John made it to Sidran! We were honored to meet John and his supporters and their great cars!
Sidran is grateful to be the American charity chosen for the drive!A well-known British classic car enthusiast, automotive historian and author, John Macartney from Evesham in Worcestershire, England has completed a marathon 10,000-mile Charity Drive across the United States and Canada. John, a PTSD survivor himself, has used his personal recovery experience – and his love of Triumph automobiles -- to bring an understanding of PTSD to the general public.
The Charity Drive’s objective was to raise funds for three charitable organizations – The Sidran Institute of Baltimore, Maryland, USA, Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada based in Montréal, and Assist Trauma Care of Rugby, England. All three organizations specialize in the many facets of awareness, education and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Over $10, 000 US dollars have been raised so far from contributors along the route of the drive.
This epic journey was undertaken in Uncle Jack, the 1973 Sapphire Blue Triumph Stag fully-restored to ‘as new’ condition by several dedicated members of Illinois Sports Owner’s Association. After finishing his long transcontinental run to raise funds for PTSD charities, Uncle Jack was entered into the judged Concours d’Elegance at the Triumphest / VTR 2009 convention in San Luis Obispo and took First in Class with a 382.5 (out of 400) point score. Congratulations to all!
Uncle Jack, is now available for sale to the highest bidder. Because of declared interests to purchase and having been advised of likely starting bids, the Reserve Price for the Stag has been set at US$25,000 – twenty five thousand US dollars. The costs of the materials for restoration will be reimbursed from the sale price and the remainder will also be divided between the charities. If you are an avid classic car enthusiast and would like to bid, visit http://triumphtransamerica.org/ for details on placing your bid.
We are very grateful to John Macartney, his colleagues on the and all the wonderful donors from the Triumph TransAmeriCan Charity Drive!
